German Publication Says Porsche Cayenne Fails Emission Standards

German publication Der Spiegel reports that Porsche's Cayenne V6 TDI model exceeds permitted emissions, based on independent tests.

The newspaper says it recruited the services of German test institute TUV Nord to check emission levels for the popular SUV under normal driving conditions.

According to the head of testing at TUV Nord Helge Schmidt, “Emissions in this test were higher than the limits for this type of car . With these values the car would not have been approved by the authorities.”

On the back of Der Spiegel's claims, Porsche said the publication's test results were “not comprehensible” and that a variety of factors including engine load, speed and temperature all impact a vehicle's emissions, Reuters reports.

Prior to Der Spiegel's report, 2013-2016 Porsche Cayenne Diesel models with the VW Group's 3.0-liter TDI had already been recalled as part of the ongoing dieselgate scandal.
