An increasing number of automakers are showcasing their latest tech at the Las Vegas show, which is the world’s largest electronics event, so it begs the question what Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have in store.
According to Bloomberg, which cites sources familiar with the issue who wish to remain anonymous, it’s going to be an all-electric version of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
The Italian-American group has been trailing its competitors when it comes to electric vehicles – but, with a $6.9 billion net industrial debt at the end of the third quarter that’s no surprise, as its resources are understandably limited.
Nevertheless, it will go down the electrification road not just with the Pacifica, which was recently launched as a hybrid, but an all-electric variant of the Maserati Alfieri sports car that’s due in 2020. The group’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne, might be a sceptic, but strict emission legislation means he can’t afford to stay off the EV bandwagon much longer.
