This latest campaign is for a problem with the rear differential unit, a pinion nut in which may not have been tightened properly during manufacturing at the former Bertone plant on Avv. Giovanni Agnelli in Grugliasco on the outskirts of Turin.
A relatively minor problem, perhaps, but it could cause the rear wheels to lock up, which in turn could cause the driver to lose control and crash. The issue affects only 326 examples of the 2017 Ghibli and Quattroporte in the United States, and fixing it will necessitate replacing the entire rear differential unit.
This recall follows shortly after 7,481 examples of the Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante were recalled just last week over a problem with the backup camera software, and another 1,703 units of both sedans were recalled over tire pressure concerns. All of which makes us wonder if there'll be more recalls before the month is out, and when Maserati will get its quality control in order.
