Despite F1 Levels Of Downforce, Aston Martin RB-001 Will Target 250 MPH

It is hard to deny that the upcoming #AstonMartin AM-RB 001 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting cars in recent memory.

Sure, it is only available to the ultra-wealthy and everyday enthusiasts will be unlikely to ever see one on the road, but the incredible claims being made about the vehicle suggest that it will could be the equivalent of a modern-day McLaren F1. Now, we have even more details about the car.

The British brand behind the ambitious project has already confirmed that the AM-RB 001 will deliver an incredible 4.5Gs of lateral cornering and be capable of rivalling a Formula 1 car around a racetrack. Despite the enormous levels of downforce set to be produced by its advanced body, Aston says it will approach a 250 mph (402 km/h) top speed and that a Nurburgring time has already been projected.

Speaking with Motoring recently, the model’s designer, Marek Reichman, confirmed the news while announcing some other exciting titbits about the model.

He said that the model will have power operated gullwing doors and an adjustable ride height system which can automatically raise and lower the car thanks to a camera able to detect bumps in the road. Additionally, the production car will include an active rear spoiler and just like the LaFerrari, have a fixed driver’s seat and an adjustable steering column and pedals.

Additionally, Reichman revealed that the AM-RB 001 will indeed use some kind of electrification except not a traditional hybrid system. It will instead use a large capacitor which can effectively provide a KERS-like 80 hp boost in power at the press of a button. Mated alongside this system will be a naturally-aspirated V12 engine displacing between 6.0- and 7.0-liters and revving to 9,500 rpm. A single-clutch sequential gearbox from Xtrac will then send all 1000 horses to the rear wheels.
