In an official planning document uncovered last week, China reveals its plans that complete electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will account for 40 per cent of all national sales in 2030, equating to approximately 15 million units.
Forbes reports that in the plans, it is also revealed that by 2020, half of all vehicle sales in China will be for vehicles with mild forms of autonomy. By 2025, sales of highly-autonomous cars will account for 15 per cent of sales and by 2030, approximately 4 million fully autonomous vehicles are expected to be on China's roads, roughly 10 per cent of the industry.
Alongside its goal of being the largest market for electrified and self-driving vehicles, China is also planning on clamping down on fuel efficiency of vehicles sold locally. The same document says that in 2020, the average fuel economy will sit at 5 liters per 100 km. That will improve to 4 liters per 100 km in 2025 and fall to 3.2 liters per 100 km in 2030.
