This new benchmark reflects the Pacifica Hybrid's combined city and highway cycle performance in electric mode only, with the 84 MPGe rating being the equivalent of 2.8 lt/100 km.
"At 84 MPGe, the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid surpasses our initially stated performance," said Tim Kuniskis, head of passenger car brands at FCA. "These EPA test results paint a clear picture of the benefits our customers can expect from driving the most fuel-efficient minivan ever."
During EPA testing, the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid established a total driving range rating of 566 miles (910 km) and an electric-only range of 33 miles (53 km).
"A large share of credit goes to the vehicle’s e-Flite dual-motor electrically variable transmission (EVT)," added FCA exec Bob Lee. "It is exceptionally well-suited to deliver the primary attributes we sought to infuse in the Pacifica Hybrid’s propulsion system – class-leading efficiency and superior refinement."
The EPA also estimates that running a 2017 Pacifica Hybrid for a full year could cost as little as $900 (fuel and electricity combined). The minivan is priced from $34,495 with the US federal tax credit, excluding including state and local incentives.
