VW's Facelifted 2017 e-Golf Debuts With 50% Better Range

Not long after the facelifted 2017 #VW Golf range was revealed, the German automaker has unveiled the new-and-improved e-Golf at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show.

Beyond receiving the same selection of exterior tweaks as the other Golf models, the e-Golf receives a new 35.8 kWh lithium-ion battery in place of the 24.2 kWh battery from the outgoing model. Volkswagen says that this increases the range by almost 50 per cent, allowing the new e-Golf to travel up to 124 miles on a single charge.

To help make the model as practical as possible, all new e-Golfs include a 7.2 kW on-board charger which allows the electric hatchback to be charged in just under six hours at a normal charging station. The top-of-the-range SEL Premium model adopts DC Fast Charging capability instead, allowing the battery to be charged to 80 per cent within an hour from a DC fast charging station. This feature is optional on the standard trim.

Some of the key safety features of the 2017 e-Golf include Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking and an optional Drive Assistance Package that includes the VW Digital Cockpit, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pedestrian Monitoring, Blind Spot Monitor Plus, Lane Assist, Park Assist and last but not least, Light Assist.

The interior of the new e-Golf includes the same features as the rest of the range. That means it receives a large 9.2-inch infotainment display, gesture control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink integration.

U.S. pricing details are expected to be released shortly.
