BMW Celebrates Three Years Since The Launch Of Their 'i' Brand

Considered to be the technological pioneer of the #BMW Group and symbolizing the company's future orientation, the 'i' sub-brand has just turned three years old.


This is the age when most children start to develop their social skills, according to some experts in the field, but BMW's 'baby' is already past that stage and proud to announce that more than 100,000 purely electric-powered cars and plug-in hybrids have been delivered so far.

"BMW i remains our spearhead in terms of innovation and will continue to open up groundbreaking technologies for the BMW Group. When it comes to electric drivetrains, we've already successfully managed to put this technology transfer on the road. The next technological advance we will address is automated driving, where the BMW iNEXT will set a new benchmark", said Chairman of the Board of Management, Harald Kruger.

The Germans' eco-friendly vehicle lineup counts seven models, including the zero-emissions i3, or plug-in hybrids. The list is about to gain larger proportions, as a new MINI Clubman plug-in hybrid is coming out in 2017, followed by the BMW i8 Roadster the year after. Additionally, a purely-electric MINI is scheduled for 2019, along with a BMW X3 EV in 2020, and another addition to the 'i' range at the start of the next decade.
