There are a few minor styling tweaks differentiating the two SUVs, but the most important detail is that the latter is made in the People's Republic by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture, while the former is put together in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The tip of the hat goes to CarNewsChina for posting these official images. If their info is correct, then the seven-seater SUV will become available with a 2.0-liter TFSI engine in two outputs - 186 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque and 220 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, in addition to a German-made 2.5-liter V6. All units are available with a 7-speed DCT transmission, which sends the output to the 4Motion AWD system.
Positioned between the Tiguan L and the Touareg, the new Volkswagen Teramont sits at 5,039 mm (198,4 in) long, 1,989 mm (78,3 in) wide and 1,773 mm (69,8 in) tall, which is roughly the same size as its overseas twin, with a 2,980 mm (117,3 in) wheelbase. The vehicle will take on the Toyota Highlander and Ford Edge in China and it's said to kick off from 300,000 yuan ($44,250), while the high-spec model will cost 450,000 yuan ($66,380).
Full details will be released next month during the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show, where the new SUV will make its debut.
