The company also said on its website that production of the Model 3 will start as scheduled in late 2017.
“Today’s website update doesn’t reflect any change in our plans,” Tesla said in a statement. “We still plan to begin Model 3 deliveries in late 2017, and we adjusted the date on our marketing page to reflect more accurate timing for new/future reservation holders.”
Tesla has already received 373,000 pre-orders for the Model 3 which is expected to be priced at $35,000 before government incentives. The entry-level Tesla is crucial to the company as it will help them expand their customer base and therefore lead them to healthy growth.
Tesla is scheduled to make a mystery announcement today, with many reports speculating that the company plans to announce anything from a new energy storage product to a new model. Stay tuned to find out.
