European brands have rather dominated the finalist lists for the 2016 World Car Awards. Indeed, they account for 60 percent of the vehicles chosen by a jury of 73 international motoring journalists.
Jaguar Land Rover and Volkswagen Group are particularly well represented, as six products from the former and five from the latter appear across the five categories.
The finalists in alphabetical order are:
World Car of the Year
Deserves to win: Jaguar XE or Land Rover Discovery Sport.
World Luxury Car of the Year
Deserves to win: Volvo XC90.
World Performance Car of the Year
Deserves to win: Audi R8 Coupé or Chevrolet Camaro (simply because they’re not just sporty versions of mainstream models).
World Green Car of the Year
Deserves to win: Toyota Mirai.
World Car Design of the Year
Deserves to win: Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Now a second round of voting begins. After that’s done, the top three finalists in each class are going to be announced at the Geneva International Motor Show on the 1st of March.
Then, to complete the process, the five winners will be declared at the New York International Auto Show on the 24th of March.
