Six-cylinder engine in Chevy muscle car still fires with same intensity as available V8
For decades, muscle cars were synonymous with big V8 engines, roar as soon as the key was turned. If a muscle car had a V6 under the hood, many enthusiasts would turn their heads away and focus only on the V8.
Times have changed, and while most muscle car fans would prefer their Camaros with the V8 engine, we invite these purists to see just how much fun they can still have even with a V6 under the hood. Car and Driver said the V6 in the new 2016 Camaro has “bragging rights” over the 5.7-liter V8 found in a Camaro SS from years ago.
This redesigned engine is now the base one found in a new 2016 Camaro coming soon to West Chevrolet serving Knoxville. There are 12 more horsepower than last year’s V6 trims, and the engine was a major part of the design of the most advanced Camaro ever.
The optional dual-mode exhaust makes the V6 roar, and those who love the sound of a V8 should get a kick out of what the Camaro’s V6 could do. When mated with the eight-speed automatic transmission, which Car and Driver called “nearly ... flawless,” the gear changes are smooth, firm and well-timed. And if you want to be in control of the shifting, a six-speed manual transmission is an option as well.
Though you may get a different experience behind the wheel of the V6 than you would the V8, the feeling will still be the same that every Camaro fan near Knoxville gets when controlling one amazing muscle car.
