This September will see the arrival of a new trim grade for Ford’s Explorer. Called Platinum, it combines features from the existing Sport and Limited versions.
The interior boasts aluminium and real ash wood trim, perforated Nirvana leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel and an upgraded 500 watt Sony audio system. A dual-panel moonroof ensures that plenty of light enters the cabin.
Standard technology includes LED headlights, automatic wipers, a lane-keeping assistant and an enhanced active parking device which can handle both parallel and perpendicular manoeuvres.
Visually, skid plates built into the bumpers and a set of polished two-tone 20” wheels help to identify the Explorer Platinum.
Power comes from the familiar turbocharged 3.5 litre V6 EcoBoost engine. Its 365 bhp (272 kW / 370 PS) is delivered to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
