Chevrolet says its 2016 Camaro will deliver “a faster, more nimble driving experience” thanks to less weight, increased structural rigidity and slightly smaller dimensions.
To help maximise that improved agility, the suspension geometry has been engineered to give enhanced levels of feel and handling precision. The electric power steering is specially calibrated, too.
Among the new Camaro’s innovations is a Driver Mode Selector. Comprising ‘Sport’, ‘Tour’ and ‘Snow/Ice’ settings, this device affects various elements such as throttle response and sensitivity of the StabiliTrak traction control system.
Furthermore the range-topping SS version also features a ‘Track’ mode, plus it’ll be available with Magnetic Ride Control continuously-variable damping for the first time.
Three engines are going to be offered, all of which can be mated to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission:
The V8 option is the LT1 unit that’s already installed in the Corvette Stingray. About one-fifth of the motor’s components have been modified for Camaro use though, and it’s being reserved exclusively for the SS model.
Sales of the 2016 Camaro are due to begin across North America later this year.
