McLaren has confirmed that the new 675LT is going to cost from £259,500. Intended as a more extreme, track-focused version of its 650S, around a third of the car's components are modified.
To start with, dry weight has been slashed by 100 kg (220 lbs) to 1,230 kg (2,711 lbs). A polycarbonate engine cover, Alcantara-covered carbon fibre seats, thinner glazing and a titanium exhaust have all contributed to the diet.
Attention was paid to the aerodynamics too. McLaren says downforce is up by 40%, thanks partly to a larger front splitter and a more effective diffuser. At the rear, the 675LT lives up to its 'Longtail' suffix by having a bigger carbon fibre airbrake.
Chassis enhancements include stiffer springs and tracks that are wider by 20 mm (0.9”). Furthermore, the suspension settings have been recalibrated and the steering is more responsive.
To complement those changes, output from the 3.8 litre V8 twin-turbo engine is up by 25 bhp (18 kW / 25 PS) to 666 bhp (496 kW / 675 PS). Revisions to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission promise quicker gear changes, plus they now also benefit from an 'Ignition Cut' device.
As a result, the 0-62 mph (100km/h) time has fallen from 3.0 to 2.9 seconds, while the 0-124 mph (200 km/h) sprint takes 7.9 instead of 8.4 seconds. Top speed however is actually down by 2 mph (3 km/h) to 205 mph (330 km/h).
Optionally available is the Club Sport package. Comprising a fire extinguisher, four-point seat harnesses and a titanium roll hoop, it will add £5,090 to the invoice.
Production of the 675LT is being limited to just 500 examples. Deliveries are expected to begin in July 2015.
