The sixth-generation Volkswagen Passat has been declared the 2015 European Car of the Year.
Its victory demonstrates once again that this award can easily favour models which sit firmly within the 'worthy but dull' category.
Encouragingly, the innovative Citroën C4 Cactus secured the runner-up spot, but a 92-point gap meant the French contender actually ended up a distant second.
