BMW Motorsport has given the M6 GT3 its first track run. The new racer, which is due to begin competing in 2016, was driven by Jörg Müller.
Like the road-going M6, power comes from a 4.4 litre turbocharged V8 engine. However, for the GT3 version it gains dry-sump lubrication and a six-speed sequential transmission. Output is said to be in excess of 500 horsepower (around 370 kW).
The bodywork features numerous aerodynamic appendages as well as the necessary FIA-approved safety devices, yet the car weighs less than 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs). That should result in a power-to-weight ratio of roughly 385 horsepower per tonne.
Privateer entrants interested in running an M6 GT3 are being invited to contact BMW Motorsport. A purchase price hasn't been revealed, though.
