Following an initial vote, the original thirty-four 2015 European Car of the Year candidates have been narrowed down to just seven nominees.
These models now face a second ballot in late February that will decide the overall winner. The result is then due to be announced the following month at the Geneva Motor Show.
The seven finalists are:
Apart from the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat, each of the cars on the shortlist represents a different market segment. Such diversity should make the jury’s job somewhat harder.
Nevertheless, two of the strongest contenders arguably have to be the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Citroën C4 Cactus. That’s because both - in different ways - represent a bold departure for their respective brands.
