Aprilia introduces the RSV4 RR

Nowadays top-tier supersport bikes seemingly need to have something in the region of 200 horsepower to be taken seriously. The latest member of that exclusive club is Aprilia’s new RSV4 RR.

Like its predecessor, the RSV4 R, power comes from a 999 cc V4 engine which sits within an aluminium frame. However, output has been increased from 181 bhp (135 kW / 184 PS) to 198 bhp (148 kW / 201 PS), but perhaps surprisingly peak torque is down very slightly to 115 Nm (84 lb/ft).

To help handle that extra brawn launch control, traction control and wheelie control are all fitted as part of the aPRC system. Furthermore there’s a choice of Sport, Track and Race throttle maps, plus an electronic quick-shifter for the six-speed transmission.

Chassis components include a Sachs upside-down front fork and rear monoshock, while the brakes are augmented by a Bosch 9MP anti-lock system that features rear wheel lift-up mitigation and three rider-selectable settings.

Optionally available is a Race Pack which consists of lightweight forged aluminium wheels, an upgraded steering damper and an Öhlins suspension set-up.

As well as the RSV4 RR, Aprilia has launched the limited edition RSV4 RF. It comes with the Race Pack as standard and a unique ‘Superpole’ livery instead of the regular model’s Ascari Black or Bucine Grey colour schemes. Just 500 examples of the RF are going to be built.
