So Dodge was being very cagey about output figures for the new Challenger SRT Hellcat.
Rather than the “600-plus horsepower” originally quoted back in May, it turns out the car’s supercharged 6.2 litre Hemi V8 engine produces a confirmed 707 bhp (527 kW / 716 PS) with 881 Nm (650 lb/ft) of torque.
That’s quite some difference and, unsurprisingly, the SRT Hellcat becomes the most powerful Challenger ever produced. Dodge has still to release any acceleration data, though.
Given the performance potential, buyers will be issued with both a standard red key fob and a special black one which limits the motor to ‘just’ 500 horsepower. That’s probably a wise move, as is an ultra-restrictive, PIN-controlled Valet Mode.
The 2015 Dodge Challenger range is due to arrive at dealers during the third quarter of 2014. Prices have yet to be revealed.
