When it was first unveiled at the North American International Auto Show back in January, Chevrolet said the Corvette Z06 would boast ‘at least’ 625 bhp (466 kW / 633 PS) with 861 Nm (635 lb/ft) of torque. Evidently those figures were rather conservative…
In fact, the Z06’s supercharged 6.2 litre LT4 V8 engine produces an SAE-certified 650 bhp (485 kW / 659 PS) at 6,400 rpm. Peak torque meanwhile is 881 Nm (650 lb/ft), which arrives at just 3,600 rpm.
To put things into perspective, some prominent European rivals have to manage with much lower outputs:
Official performance data is yet to be released, but Chevrolet has confirmed that Z06 customers will be able to specify either a seven-speed manual gearbox or the new 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission.
Sales of the 2015 Corvette Z06 are due to begin during the fourth quarter of this year.
