Morgan is launching the Plus 8 Speedster to help celebrate 100 years of production at its Pickersleigh Road factory in Malvern.
Built around a bonded and riveted aluminium chassis, the new model features the same BMW-sourced 362 bhp (270 kW / 367 PS) 4.8 litre V8 engine that’s used in a regular Plus 8. Stripped-back bodywork has improved the car’s power to weight ratio, though.
As a result, the Speedster will accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds, making it 0.3 of a second quicker than the standard Plus 8. However, top speed is limited to 148 mph (238 km/h), which is actually 7 mph (11 km/h) slower than usual.
In the UK, the Speedster’s price tag is £69,995 (plus on the road costs), an amount that’s significantly less than the £85,200 charged by Morgan for the Plus 8. Deliveries are due to begin in the summer but availability is going to be limited.
