The S60 race car that Volvo Polestar Racing will be running in this year’s V8 Supercars Championship has made its public debut in Sydney, Australia.
Built according to the V8 Supercars series’ ‘Car of the Future’ regulations, power comes from a 4,989 cc, naturally-aspirated, all-aluminium V8 engine producing around 650 bhp (485 kW / 660 PS) that’s connected to a sequential six-speed transaxle transmission. In the 1,410 kg (3,108 lbs) S60 it’s expected to result in a 3.2 seconds 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time and a top speed of at least 185 mph (298 km/h).
Polestar owner Christian Dahl commented: “This is a significant day. Polestar has been Volvo Car Group’s global performance and motorsport partner since 1996, and has campaigned Volvos in the World Touring Car Championship, the European Touring Car Championship and, currently, the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. To that end, we’re looking forward to the challenge of the V8 Supercar Championship.”
Scott McLaughlin and Robert Dahlgren have been confirmed as Volvo Polestar Racing’s drivers, while Garry Rogers is team principal.
The S60 gets its first public track outing at the V8 Supercars Test Day which takes place at the Sydney Motorsport Park on the 15th of February. Then, two weeks later, the 2014 race season begins with the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
