The 2014 Polo R WRC is essentially the same car that helped Volkswagen Motorsport secure the drivers’, co-drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles in last year’s World Rally Championship.
That’s largely because the manufacturers participating in the series agreed not to re-homologate any existing cars for this season. They have been permitted to play ten modification ‘jokers’ though, thereby allowing some detail changes. For the Polo, these include revised software and chassis components.
Defending their championships in the lead Volkswagen will be Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia. Jari-Matti Latvala / Miikka Anttila and Andreas Mikkelsen / Mikko Markkula comprise the crews for the team’s other two entries.
The first event of the 2014 World Rally Championship is the Rallye Monte Carlo, which begins on the 16th of January.
