Mercedes has taken the wraps off its new V-Class full-size multi-purpose vehicle.
With seating for up to eight people the van-based, Spanish-built V-Class is aimed at business users, larger families and anybody with an active lifestyle. To help reach such a broad audience, it’ll be sold via Mercedes’ car and commercial vehicle dealer networks.
Included in the specification are a separately-opening tailgate window, Crosswind Assist and the fatigue-detecting Attention Assist device. The options list is extensive though, as would be expected. Among the customisation items are various seating configurations, a 360° camera, adaptive cruise control, full LED lights, active parking, Agility Control variable damping and three infotainment systems.
From launch just one engine is going to be available: a 2.1 litre, four-cylinder, common-rail turbodiesel that drives the rear wheels. However, buyers will have three outputs to pick from.
Both the V 200 CDI and V 220 CDI can be specified with either a six-speed manual gearbox or the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission, while the V 250 BlueTEC comes as standard with the latter. All versions are offered with a choice of two wheelbases and three body lengths.
In Germany prices start at €42,900 excluding sales tax. There, the V-Class order book opens in March ahead of the first deliveries which are due to begin a couple of months later. Market launches in other European territories will then follow in June.
