So, how are these bargain picks are chosen? Here are some criteria that were followed:
- A vehicle must be available between 2003-2012
- Reported problems from owners are minimal, based from local forums and several of my reviews
- Vehicle value must be excellent, since they are good bargains.
- Must offer a competitive advantage over its rivals and must fit the buyers needs in a category
- Availability in the second hand market must be widespread
For Wednesday, we shall give the page to vehicles that will give you a smile on your face. Whether you want to drive fast on the open road or cruise in the scenic routes and feel the cold air, there is a sports car or convertible waiting for you. With these cars as fast as the pick-up lines of Miriam Santiago, let The Ultimate Used Car Guide guide you with the great picks.
SPORTS CAR AND CONVERTIBLE BEST BARGAIN: 2009-2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Back in 2009, Hyundai was serious on conquering the automotive world and part one of their strategy is building a sports car that can compete with the established brands. And that product was unveiled, the Genesis Coupe. From potent engines that can be treated with modifications to a low price (new and most importantly for this list, used), this coupe can conquer it all. Either engine is great but remember that the manual is somewhat clunky to use while the automatic spoils the fun.
Recommended trims: 2.0 4-cylinder or 3.5 V6 (whatever suits your lifestyle)

2008-2012 Mazda MX5 Miata
What's not to love the Miata? Classic looks, it is reliable, a hoot to drive, and somewhat cheap to maintain. No other convertible can beat this Japanese wonder. German convertibles are great but some of them possess high resale prices, expensive maintenance costs, spoiled driving experience (no thanks to the numerous driving nannies), and poor reliability. Simplicity is the key and Mazda succeeded.
Recommended trim: 2.0 (2008-2012)
2003-2008 Nissan 350z
Get the stares while having an explosive performance. The 350z is one great coupe but practicality is poor (you wouldn't mind it anyways) plus maintenance is expensive (duh). It may be a rare gem, but the hunt for one is worth it.
Recommended trim: 3.5 V6
2003-2012 Subaru Impreza WRX/WRX STI
This is one four door vehicle that can take your kids to school and at the same time, attack the asphalt on weekends. You can live with this vehicle and pick the WRX for less worries while retaining the performance of the top brother. In its 2008 redesign, the Impreza can be had in both sedan and hatchback. Just remember the following statement, manuals are great but the automatic saps power.
Recommended trims: 2.5 WRX (2003-2007, 2008-2010)
