Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 first view

The all-new Lamborghini Huracán is named after a fighting bull. That’s rather fitting because, as a replacement for the Gallardo, it’s going to have to take on the likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren 12C.

Powering the LP 610-4 version is a revised 5.2 litre V10 engine. Unusually fitted with both direct and indirect injection systems, it produces 601 bhp (448 kW / 610 PS) with 560 Nm (413 lb/ft) of torque. That output is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Thanks partly to a carbon fibre and aluminium chassis which keeps the dry weight down to 1,422 kg (3,135 lbs), the 0-62mph (100 km/h) time is 3.2 seconds. A definitive top speed hasn’t been quoted yet, but Lamborghini says it’ll be in excess of 202 mph (325 km/h).

Despite that performance, Lamborghini is keen to stress the Huracán’s ‘easy-to-drive road behaviour’. Strada, Sport and Corsa user-selectable modes affect the powertrain, transmission and stability control settings.

Private preview events are scheduled for next month, ahead of the Huracán’s public debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in March. The first customer deliveries are then expected to follow soon after.
