BMW Motorsport has unveiled its M235i Racing. Aimed at privateer teams, the production-based racer is going to be eligible for series such as the VLN Endurance Championship as well as the annual 24 Hours race around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Compared to the showroom model, the most obvious visual differences are the widened wheel arches which give the car a purposeful stance. They also improve the looks a lot, so if a future road-going M2 doesn’t feature something similar then BMW will have missed an opportunity.

Beneath the skin of the M235i Racing are the usual competition accoutrements, including a full roll cage and special fuel cell. Power comes from a 2,979 cc, six-cylinder, twin-turbo engine that produces 328 bhp (245 kW / 333 PS) instead of the usual 321 bhp (240 kW / 326 PS). To go with the extra output, the stability control, traction control and anti-lock braking systems have all been recalibrated for circuit use.
The M235i Racing costs €59,500 excluding VAT, which equates to around £49,700 at current exchange rates.
