2014 KTM RC390 road bike first view

Following the unveiling of the KTM RC390 Cup back in July, details of its road-going sibling have now emerged.

Built around a tubular steel trellis frame with Moto3-inspired bodywork, components include a WP monoshock rear suspension and an upside-down front fork.

Power comes from the same single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-stroke 373 cc engine that’s already used in the 390 Duke. The good news for novice European riders is an output of 42 bhp (32 kW / 43 PS) plus a dry weight of 147 kg (324 lbs) should mean the RC390 is usable by A2 licence holders without modification.

Its most obvious small sports bike rival is going to be the Kawasaki Ninja 300. However, the Japanese machine is marginally heavier and, with a 296 cc parallel-twin motor that develops 38 bhp (29 kW / 39 PS), slightly less powerful compared to the KTM.
