As special editions go, the new Subaru XV Black isn’t especially exciting.
For starters, calling a model ‘Black’ is getting boring now; just about every other manufacturer seems to have resorted to using the name at some point, probably because thinking up anything more imaginative was too much effort.
Naturally, the only paintwork choice for this particular Subaru is Crystal Black Silica, which is complemented by a silver finish for the resin bodywork protectors on the bumpers and side sills. While the XV Black is based on the well-equipped SE trim grade, its only other additional specification comprises some mudflaps, a set of rubber floor mats and a foldable tray and step panel for the boot.
Subaru reckons that lot adds up to over £1,600, but customers will just be charged an extra £1,000. Consequently, the 2.0 litre petrol version (which is only available with a Lineartronic automatic transmission) costs £24,495 and the 2.0 litre diesel alternative (which comes with a six-speed manual gearbox) has a price tag of £24,995.
