To coincide with its first customer delivery, McLaren has released some performance figures for the new P1.
Placing a powerful hybrid powertrain into a lightweight carbon fibre bodyshell was always going to result in an extremely rapid car, and in that respect the P1 certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Combined, its 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine and electric motor produce 903 bhp (673 kW / 916 PS), which is enough for some amazingly fast acceleration times. Indeed, as can be seen from the data below, the McLaren will just outpace a Bugatti Veyron up to 186 mph (300 km/h). A Ferrari LaFerrari is slightly quicker, though.
But the P1 also manages to be relatively efficient. Combined cycle fuel economy is an impressive 34.0 mpg (8.3 l/100km), carbon dioxide emissions are 194 g/km and it’ll even travel for 6.8 miles (11 kilometres) on electric-only power. Quite what those numbers will look like away from the confines of official test cycle driving remains to be seen, of course.
