Created to celebrate Mike Rockenfeller clinching the 2013 DTM drivers’ championship, the just-revealed Audi A5 DTM Champion edition is actually rather tragic.
The only elements that differentiate it from a standard A5 Coupé are some 20” alloy wheels, a rear wing, faux aluminium door mirror caps and a smattering of DTM badges.
What’s more, it’s not even based on the V8-powered RS 5. Instead, buyers get to choose from two petrol and two diesel engines that range in output from 177 bhp (130 kW / 177 PS) to 268 bhp (200 kW / 272 PS).
Available with Misano Red, Daytona Grey or Glacier White paintwork, production is being restricted to 300 examples. The package price in Germany has been set at €1,900, which frankly seems like a waste of money.
The Audi A5 DTM Champion edition won’t be coming to the UK.
