2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R specs

Following the appearance of a prototype 1290 Super Duke R at last year’s EICMA show in Milan, KTM has revealed some technical specifications for the production version.

Built around a powder-coated steel trellis frame, power is provided by a V-twin engine. Despite the bike’s name the motor’s displacement is actually 1,301 cc, which translates into an output of 177 bhp (132 kW / 180 PS) with 144 Nm (106 lb/ft) of peak torque.

Not only does that make the 1290 Super Duke R KTM’s most powerful road bike, it also eclipses naked rivals such as the 133 bhp (99 kW / 135 PS) Triumph Speed Triple R, 155 bhp (117 kW / 158 PS) MV Agusta Brutale 1090 RR and 170 bhp (127 kW / 173 PS) BMW K 1300 R. The claimed 0-124 mph (200 km/h) acceleration time is just 7.2 seconds, thanks partly to a dry weight of 189 kg (416 lbs).

Chassis set-up comprises an WP upside-down front fork and twin radial-mounted Brembo M50 monoblock brake calipers at the front, while the rear gets a WP monoshock mounted on a single swingarm and a single disc brake.

Traction control and Bosch’s 9M+ combined anti-lock braking system are fitted as standard, although both can be deactivated. What’s more, the ABS can be switched to Supermoto mode, meaning it works only on the front wheel.
