Volkswagen Kombi Last Edition

On this day in 1957, Volkswagen began building the T2 van in Brazil. Known locally as the Kombi, the only remaining rear-engine Volkswagen is still being made there 56 years later.

That’s a record-breaking run, but production of the Kombi is due to finish at the end of 2013. Such an occasion deserves to be marked, so a special Last Edition model has been created.

Limited to 600 units, the Last Editions are identifiable by their blue and white two-tone paintwork, whitewall tyres and tinted rear windows. The interior features matching vinyl upholstery, carpets, special vinyl trim panels, blue fabric curtains and an MP3 audio system.

Finishing touches are provided by the ‘56 anos - Kombi Last Edition’ bodywork decals, a numbered dashboard plaque and a certificate of authenticity.

As with other Brazilian-built Kombis, the Last Edition is powered by a 1.4 litre liquid-cooled engine that can run on either petrol or ethanol.
