Citroën C-Elysée WTCC revealed

Citroën has previewed the car that Sébastien Loeb will be driving in the 2014 World Touring Car Championship.



The contender is based on the new C-Elysée four-door saloon, which won’t be available as a road-going model across much of Europe. So, on the face of it, Citroën has made an odd choice.

However, using the C-Elysée actually makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective because it (along with the virtually identical Peugeot 301) has been designed primarily for emerging markets such as Russia and China. And those two countries currently host rounds of the WTCC...



As per the FIA’s latest regulations, the racing C-Elysée features dramatically widened wheel arches, 18” wheels, a front splitter and a boot-mounted rear wing. Power comes from a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine, which sends its estimated 380 bhp (283 kW / 385 PS) to the front wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission.

The Citroën C-Elysée WTCC is due to make its public debut at this September’s IAA show in Frankfurt.
