Drayson Racing Technologies has announced plans to attempt to set a new land speed record for electric vehicles in the sub-1000kg (2205 lb) class.
Using a low-drag version of their Drayson B12 69/EV, the company will attempt to beat the previous record of 175 mph (281.6 km/h) which was set by Battery Box General Electric in 1974.
The specially modified B12 69/EV will ride on a carbon Lola LMP1 chassis and feature aerodynamic body work as well as four axial flux motors. While the car normally has a 30 kWh battery and an output of 850 bhp (640 kW), the world record variant will have a lightweight 20 kWh battery and an output of 600 bhp (480 kW).
Former UK science minister Lord Drayson will make the record breaking attempt on June 25th at RAF Elvington's 1.86 mile (3 km) runway.
