2014 Corvette Stingray convertible

The highlight of Chevrolet’s stand at the Geneva Motor Show is the striking new Corvette Stingray convertible.

Developed alongside the recently-unveiled coupé, it shares its basic aluminium structure and 6.2 litre (376 cu. in.) V8 engine with the hardtop model. Interestingly, Chevrolet is saying that the convertible hasn’t needed any additional structural reinforcement, so the power-to-weight ratio is virtually unchanged.

The three-layer fabric roof is fully electric, and it can be operated at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h). Alternatively, poseurs will appreciate the ability to retract it remotely using the key fob.

Sales of the 2014 Corvette Stingray are due to begin late this year. As well as North America, Chevrolet has confirmed that both the coupé and cabriolet will be available in Europe (including the UK), Japan, Russia and the Middle East. However, there are no plans to produce a right-hand drive version.
