With ever-rising fuel costs, Ram’s plan to offer a diesel-powered half-ton pick-up could give it an important advantage over competitors GM and Ford.
The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is due to go on sale in the second half of this year as a 2014 model. Powered by a 3.0 litre V6 engine sourced from VM Motori that’ll be connected to an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, Ram is promising best-in-class efficiency, range and torque.
Figures have yet to be published to back up those claims, though. Likewise, output is still unknown but, based on what a similar engine produces in other Chrysler Group products, expect something in the region of 237 bhp (176 kW / 240 PS) with 550 Nm (405 lb/ft) of torque.
