McLaren hasn’t won the Formula One Constructors' Championship since 1998, and the last time the team was victorious in the Drivers’ Championship was back in 2008, when Lewis Hamilton took the title. So the Woking-based outfit must be desperately hoping that its contender for the 2013 season, the MP4-28, might end the fallow period.
An evolution of last year’s car, the MP4-28 will be driven by Jenson Button and new arrival Sergio Perez. According to McLaren, the development work has focussed on the front suspension, sidepod profiles, rear bodywork and the nose (although the team has again resisted using the ‘step’ design that’s preferred by many of its rivals).
Power continues to be provided by a 2.4 litre Mercedes-Benz V8 engine, assisted by a 60 kW kinetic energy recovery system.
