SsangYong Korando CSX

SsangYong has gone niche hunting with its latest model, the all-wheel drive Korando CSX light commercial vehicle.

Yet it’s based on a fairly simple formula: take a Korando SX sport utility, remove the rear seats to create a flat load deck that measures 1,525 mm (5’ 0”) by 965 mm (3’ 2”), then blank off the glass behind the B-pillar to keep prying eyes away.

Payload is a fairly modest 433 kg (954 lbs), but the cargo area can be accessed via either the rear tailgate or the side doors and the CSX is capable of pulling a two-tonne trailer. And anyway, the target audience is probably going to value the Korando’s off-road abilities over its load-carrying capacity.

Power comes from the same engine as found in the Korando SX, a 2.0 litre turbo diesel that produces 146 bhp (109 kW / 149 PS) and 360 Nm (265 Nm) of peak torque. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, carbon dioxide emissions are 157 g/km, while the combined cycle fuel consumption is a very respectable 45.6 mpg (6.2 l/100km).

In the UK, the Korando CSX costs £15,995 on the road (excluding VAT), and it comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a six-speaker audio system.
