There’s no doubt that the new Insignia VXR SuperSport is a performance bargain. A 2.8 litre V6 turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive, no speed limiter and a reduced price tag of £29,995 see to that.
With 320 bhp (239 kW / 325 PS), the VXR accelerates from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.6 seconds, before going onto an astounding top speed of 170 mph (273 km/h).

But is it going to be a big seller? Probably not is the answer, despite those figures. The number of people looking for such a quick car is small and, for many in that select group, the potential depreciation associated with a non-premium badge is a major turn-off.
What most smart buyers will do is wait a year or so. With 2011 versions of the Insignia VXR currently retailing from around £22,000, the SuperSport is set to be an even bigger bargain pre-owned.
