New 2013 Panda 4x4 Debuts

New 2013 Fiat Panda 4x4

The new Fiat Panda 4x4 recently made its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Since 1983, the Fiat Panda 4x4 has been impressing off road fans with its rugged go anywhere capability. The new version takes those abilities and cloaks them in a new, refined package, making the Panda 4x4 one of the most versatile cars ever, regardless of size!

Watch this video and you will see why the Fiat Panda 4x4 has a world wide following.

The concept of the Fiat Panda 4x4 is to offer folks all the versatility and off road capability of traditionally larger SUVs but in a practically sized car that can fit anywhere. Engines offered are the 85 hp .9 L TwinAir and the torquey 75 Hp 1.3L MultiJet II diesel. The star of the range is the diesel with its 140lbs ft torque rating and 50mpg fuel economy.

The Fiat Panda 4x4 is a seriously capable vehicle!

To ensure the new Fiat Panda 4x4 lives up to the previous generations legacy, the permanent four wheel drive system features an electronic coupling that distributes drive torque to the axle with the most traction. Integrated with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) the system sports an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) function that automatically transfers power from side to side to an individual wheel with the highest grip. Drive is via a six speed manual gearbox with an extra low first gear for starting off in difficult terrain.

Suspension is a MacPherson strut design in the front and a new Torsion beam axle in the back replacing a semi trailing arm design previously used in last year's Panda 4x4. Compared to the older car, this new rear suspension offers both comfort and the rugged flexibility needed in extreme off road settings.

The Panda 4x4 is differentiated from the normal Panda with unique trim and a more integrated tailpipe that is tucked closer to the body for protection from off road obstacles.

It has been rumored the new Fiat Panda would come to North America, but it is unlikely. However, there is a four wheel drive version of the new Fiat 500L that is in the works, so expect to see that in the coming future. Maybe this time next year?
