Nissan unveils all-electric TeRRA SUV concept [VIDEO]

Nissan is gearing up for the Paris Motor Show where it plans to unveil the TeRRA concept, a zero-emissions all-wheel-drive fuel cell vehicle.

The fuel cell is combined with the engine of the Nissan Leaf. Both rear wheels house an electric motor, a design trick that keeps the floor of the car flat. The rather compact hydrogen fuel cell is located at the rear of the car.

Its unique diagonal seating layout is designed to give a central position to the driver as well as open the view up for back seat passengers. When the back seats are folded down, it creates a totally flat surface that can host "bikes, kayaks or assemble-yourself furniture from Scandinavia," according to the press release.

The TeRRA's eco-friendly credentials do not preclude top-notch connected technology. A removable tablet located in front of the driver displays the vehicle's speed and other useful information. The driver can also decide to switch at any time to the navigation, communication, or entertainment modes (among others). Once the driver steps outside the vehicle, the device can be used in the same way as any other tablet.

The TeRRA concept seems to be a sign of what's to come from the next generation of fuel cell EV production models. It will be on display at Nissan's Paris Motor Show exhibit, from September 29 to October 14.
