Toyota Yaris R1A rally car

Toyota Motorsport has launched the new Yaris R1A rally car.

As the name implies, it has been built to the FIA’s R1A regulations, which means technical enhancements compared to the standard production model are limited. The main area of attention has been the chassis, which receives motorsport dampers, upgraded springs and an adjustable ride height.

While the 1.33 litre petrol engine is largely unchanged, it does get a special air filter, a replacement catalytic converter and a racing exhaust system. A shorter final gear for the six-speed transmission should help drivability.

Of course, a suite of safety equipment comes as part of the package, and it includes rally seats with safety harnesses, cut-off switches, a roll cage, various under-body guards and a plumbed-in fire extinguisher.

Homologation of the Yaris R1A is expected to be completed before the end of the year, but before that happens it will be seen on the ADAC Rallye Deutschland in the role of course car.

Available now from Toyota Motorsport, the Yaris R1A costs €22,500 including the base car but excluding taxes.
