Ahead of its debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show, Fiat has released the first images of the five-door, five-seat 500L.
The ‘L’ stands for Large, and the new model measures 414 cm long, 178 cm wide and 166 cm high. That makes it slightly bigger than the recently-announced third generation Fiat Panda, which has a length of 365 cm, a width of 164 cm and a height of 155 cm.
Perhaps inevitably, the extra bulk and the need to accommodate more people and their stuff means that the 500L misses out on the cutesy looks of the 500 and 500C. What effect that’ll have on its appeal remains to be seen.
Assembly will take place at Fiat’s facility in Kragujevac, Serbia, and European sales of the 500L are due to begin during the fourth quarter of 2012. There’s no word yet on whether it’ll be offered in North America.
